In the manual page 10-11 ther is description of it.
“The current panoramic camera module uses Insta X5 panoramic camera
accessories, and the panoramic camera and scanner are connected through an
overhead structure bracket and a data cable.”
I can get my hands on Insta X5 easy, but where can I get the mount? Is that some sort of standard Insta X5 they sell or does Manifold sell it?
Also from the picture in the manual it looks like it will be impossible to mount both the camera and RTK module.
Hello @2042, thank you for your inquiry. The mount for the Insta360 camera is available directly from Manifold. Please note that if you intend to use the RTK module alongside the Insta camera, a compatible RTK module as well as a separate mounting bracket are required.
I`m kinda new to this hole field, so a may be reading it wrong, but my question is
As i read it the Insta360 camera will be only for video/photo annotation. Does it effect the point cloud generation or subsequentially 3dgs generation?
The Insta360 camera is primarily used to capture visual data alongside the LiDAR scan.
Regarding point cloud generation, the camera does not affect the underlying spatial geometry, point density, or physical accuracy, the LiDAR sensor handles that independently. However, the camera imagery is required to colorize the point cloud (RGB data). Without it, the point cloud will be monochromatic or rendered based solely on intensity or elevation values.
For 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), the camera is essential. While the LiDAR point cloud provides the baseline geometric structure, the 3DGS pipeline relies on high-resolution panoramic images from the camera to reconstruct realistic textures, lighting, and fine visual details.
So if your focus is strictly raw geometric measurements, the camera is not strictly needed, but for colorized point clouds or 3DGS output, it is required.
